Abakaliki

On October 29, 2022, the Mayor Priory of Abakaliki, in the Diocese of Abakaliki (Nigeria) was erected as an Abbey, in accordance with the decision of the General Chapter of Assisi 2022, Second Part.

On the same day, Mother Regina Nebo was elected the first Abbess of the Community for a term of six years. The election was confirmed by the Abbot General.

Mother Regina was born in 1951 in Kafanchan (Nigeria). She entered Abakaliki in 1985 and made her solemn profession in 1994. She had been a Councillor of the Abbot General from 2008 to 2018. At the time of her election, she was titular prioress of the community.
