Novo Mundo

January 19, 2025: Dom Bernardo Bonowitz was born in 1949 in New York City (USA). He had been a member of the Society of Jesus, was ordained a priest in 1979 before entering St. Joseph’s Abbey, Spencer in 1982, where he made his solemn profession in 1986. He came to Novo Mundo (Brazil) in 1986 and was Titular Prior from 1996 to 2008, then Abbot from 2008 until 2020.  His resignation was accepted in 2020 because of health reasons. He stayed since his resignation because of health reasons in the abbey of Genesee. He was 75 years old, had been in monastic vows for 39 years and 46 years a priest when the Lord called him.
