Origins

Founded by Spencer in 1950; raised to the status of abbey in 1958.

History

1950: The foundation developed with difficulty both in terms of personnel and material resources, but by 1958 erection into an abbey was possible.

1958, 18 November: blessing of first abbot.

1970, 18 November: a car accident takes the lives of 3 monks: Fr. Georges Supry, Fr. Henry Maloney and Br Cyrill Cornish.

Work and Sources of Income

Our main source of income is the bakery where we produce fruitcakes and creamed honey. Our second source of income is the gift shop, which sells books, religious articles, and food products from monasteries

Guest Facilities

16 rooms: 2 groups (individual retreats) per week: Mon.-Fri. and Fri.-Sun. The former guest house is used for monks’ families. We also have a special long-term retreat programme for men in the community.
