Origins
Founded by Spencer (“the Valley”) at Pecos NM in 1948; raised to the status of abbey in 1950; transferred to Oregon in 1955.
History
1951, 24 January: blessing of first abbot.
1952: Because the community is not able to make a living where it is, the general chapter gives its authorization to transfer to another location
1953: A property is purchased in Oregon.
1954: The property is prepared and a temporary monastery built.
1955, 1 March: The community travels to Oregon by air.
1970 New industries: Bindery and Carpentry shop
1977 New Guesthouse Units: the Blessing.
1981 New industry: Fruitcakes
1992 New meditation hall finished: Bethany House
1994 New Industry: Wine Warehouse
2007, 8 December: Blessing of new church

Bookbinding, forestry, fruitcakes, wine shop.
Guest Facilities
5 cottages (double occupancy): four are used for retreatants and 1 for monks’ families. The guests eat in the dining room of the old guesthouse and are served the same food as the monks. Individual retreats are normally for one week. A group retreat is organized once per month.
