History

The main historic event for the community of Rivet is its transfer from Blagnac, in the diocese of Toulouse, to the ancient Cistercian abbey of Ste Marie du Rivet, in the diocese of Bordeaux.
After this transfer was approved by the general chapter of 1937, le Rivet acquired the required permissions of Dom Bernard Barbaroux wrote to the Rev. Mother of Blagnac: “Our Rev. Father Abbot General (Dom Herman-Joseph Smets) asked me to write you to express his joy at knowing that le Rivet is once again Cistercian. Of his whole heart he wishes sincerely that all will soon be done to put the monastery in the proper state for cloistered religious. »
On 9 June 1939 the community of Blagnac, in possession of the indult of the Holy See dated 23 March 1939, transfered to Ste Marie du Rivet, in Gironde.
