Origins
Spontaneous foundation in 1824; raised to the status of priory 1825 and to the status of abbey in 1836.
History
1824: foundation by Fr. Bon Onfroy, pastor of Digosville (Manche). His religious name would be Br. Augustin.
1834, 13 November: consecration of the church.
1836: The founder, Dom Augustin Onfroy, is elected abbot.
1902-1921: a refuge is established in England
1950: “Spiritual foundation” of the Cistercian Sisters of O.L. of La Merci-Dieu, affiliated with the Order in 1977 and raised by Rome to the rank of autonomous priory in 2006.
1974: Solemn celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Bricquebec in the presence of Dom Ambrose Southey, abbot general.
