Founded 10 April 10 1793 by La Valsainte at Poblet; transferred to Santa Suzanna in 1797; forced to seek refuge several times from 1811 to 1927 (Majorca, St. Aubin, Divielle, Hort, Las Avellanas, Val San Jose, etc. [refuge at Melleray and Port-du-Salut 1835-1869]); transferred to La Oliva 1927; raised to the status of abbey 1948.
Histoire
1793: The community was founded in 1793 by La Valsainte: 2 monks, Fr. Gerasime and d’Alcantara and Fr. Jean de Cosmas, left la Val-Sainte on 10 April 1793 and were received at Poblet where they were joined by a group of 10 other monks at the beginning of 1794. The community lived at Poblet, but separate from the Spanish community, for 3 years.
1797: they purchased the former priory of St. Suzanna, which was raised to the status of abbey on 25 March 1798.
1811: the community was suppressed by Napoleon; it took refuge on the island of Majorca.
1814: return to St. Suzanna
1820: suppressed once again, the community took refuge at St. Aubin, near
1828: return to St. Suzanna
1835: religious persecution in Spain; all monasteries were suppressed. Part of the community of St. Suzanna sought refuge at Melleray, another part at Port-du-Salut, all remaining under the jurisdiction of the abbot.
1869: the monks reunited at Divielle.
1880: the monks were expelled on 26 November; there were 36 (26?) Spanish monks who stayed for a time at San Pedro de Cardeñas.
1881: the community moved to O. L. of Hort in November.
1884: transferred to La Avellans, Bellpuig, in October.
1890: transferred to Val San Jose.
